The strategy implemented by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Pattimura Semarang Branch to letter of credit
Common payment methodused in international trade is Letter of Credit (L/C), because it provides several advantages to an exporter and an importer. Letter of Credit is a letter which is issued by an issuing bank at an importer request in the importer’s country. Although the safest payment method is Letter of Credit, there are possibilities for the parties of L/C can do fraud.
The aim of the final project is to find out the negotiation process of documents required by a Letter of Credit (L/C), and the strategy of Bank Rakyat Indonesia to anticipate fraud related to Letter of Credit (L/C).The study used primer and secondary data. The data were collected by conducting interviews and studying documents.
Bank Rakyat Indonesia has role as negotiating bank and advising bank. In anticipating fraud related to Letter of Credit, the bank has some strategies, they are (1) checking L/C authenticity, (2) synchronizing the documents with the goods, and (3) also handle Red Clause L/C.L/C received via SWIFT will be handled directly by the bank, but L/C received via facsimile will be sent first to the head office in Jakarta.
