Capital Market Reaction on Government Policy: a Case Study of Abnormal Return and Trading Volume Activity of State-owned Bank = Capital Market Reaction on Government Policy: a Case Study of Abnormal Return and Trading Volume Activity of State-owned Bank
This research aims to analyse how the market reacts to fund placement policy by the Ministry of Finance, viewed from the differences in Abnormal Return and Trading Volume Activity of the five state-owned banks' stocks before and after the announcement. The research is a quantitative study using an event study approach, that analysed abnormal return and trading volume activity of 5 state-owned bank with an observation period of 40 days pre- and post-the fund placement policy announcement. The data were further analysed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and Independent Sample T-Tests with SPSS. The results show no significant difference in Abnormal Return before and after the announcement, but there is a significant difference in Trading Volume Activity. These findings tend to indicate a price-volume divergence pattern where the market reacts through trading volume, not stock price, while changes in volume reflect gradual investor portfolio adjustments in response to the policy signals.
